Beginner Salsa Classes in Baltimore

Walk in to try something new. Walk out counting down to your first dance social.

Total beginners learn real Salsa over 4 progressive weeks in Harbor East — no partner, no experience needed. By the end, you won't just know the moves — you'll be looking for the next social to use them, with a new crew to dance with.

4-Week Progressive Series

Mondays 7–8 PM · Just 40 spots per series · $75 for ALL 4 weeks

Think this isn't for you?

We've heard all three — and every one of them is exactly why this class exists.

I've got two left feet — I never danced growing up.

Neither did most of the room. Everyone here is an adult starting from zero, together. There's nothing to catch up on — and adulthood is the perfect time to finally learn.

I'm Latino/a… I feel like I should already know salsa.

You grew up with the music, not a class — and that's exactly what this is. Learn the foundation step by step, so you can finally dance with your family, your friends, and your culture, with real confidence.

I'm a guy — I don't want to get laughed at.

The truth? This is partner dancing, and the follows are hoping you'll show up. Leads are wanted and welcomed, nobody's judging, and everyone here is a beginner. It opens a whole new social world.

Choose Your Role

Two roles, one dance. Here's what each one does.

Leads
  • 🧭 Prepare and initiate the moves
  • ↔️ Signal directional changes
  • 🥁 Set and mark the timing
  • 🥁 Keep the timing
  • Execute the moves
  • 👂 Interpret the lead's prep and respond

Not sure which to pick? Traditionally men lead and women follow — but this is an inclusive community, so choose whichever role suits you. Pick one and stick with it for the series (learning both at once gets confusing) — you can always come back and learn the other in a future series. Over time, knowing both makes you a well-rounded dancer.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a partner?
Nope. We rotate partners throughout class, so you'll dance with the whole room and never sit out. Come solo or bring a friend — either works.
Do I need any dance experience?
None at all. Salsa 1A is built for total beginners — everyone in the room is an adult starting from zero, together. If you've told yourself you have "two left feet," this is exactly the class for you.
Should I choose lead or follow?
Whichever suits you — this is an inclusive community, so the role is your choice. Pick one and stick with it for the series (learning both at once gets confusing). You're always welcome to learn the other role in a future series, which makes you a well-rounded dancer over time.
Can I drop in for one class, or do I sign up for the whole series?
You register for the full 4-week series. It's a progressive curriculum where each week builds on the last, so there are no single-class drop-ins — that's what keeps everyone learning together.
What if I miss a class?
You get 24/7 access to our online recap companion course, so you can review anything you missed and walk into the next class caught up.
What should I wear and bring?
Comfortable, breathable clothing you can move in, and shoes with a smooth sole so you can turn easily. Bring a water bottle if you like — there's a water fountain on site, plus drinks and snacks available for purchase. That's it!
Where is it, and where do I park?
Coppermine Health & Fitness — Harbor East (655 President St, Baltimore, MD 21202). You get free validated garage parking for the full class, in the garage attached to the building, so you park and walk right in. Full parking details are sent when you register. Arrive about 10 minutes early to park and check in.
Who is this for?
Adult beginners of every background — no partner, no experience, and no "dance body" required. Whether you've never danced, or you grew up around the music and want real structure to finally dance with your family and culture, you belong here.
What happens after the 4 weeks?
You'll be ready to keep going — repeat Salsa 1A to sharpen your foundation, or move up to Salsa 1B. Your recap course and playlist stay with you so you can keep practicing, and we'll point you to socials and Open Practice where you can dance with real partners.
How do refunds and credits work?
All registrations are final, so we don't offer refunds. But life happens: if your plans change before the series begins, we can convert your payment into a class credit toward a future series (valid 6 months), or you can transfer your spot to another person — just contact us first. Once the series starts, missed classes aren't eligible for refunds or credits. And if we ever cancel a class, you're covered with a make-up, a credit, or a refund.
